M.Sc (Environmental Studies)

Organiser : MYA-Bot.YU

Overview :

Over many centuries, we have learned much about ourselves and the physical as well as biological systems around us. Survival of living things greatly depend on the environment that they live in. Hazardous conditions occurred in the natural environment mainly due to population growth. If one is not aware of these factors survival of us could become a major issue in the near future. Air and water pollution, ozone depletion, diminishing natural resources, fresh water crisis and increasing food shortages, are some of the physical problems that we are facing nowadays. Less tangible, but nevertheless uncomfortable, are the emotional effect of overcrowding which include stress and strain, due to the environmental conditions.

In recent years, there has been an increasing emphasis on monitoring environmental modification on a global level and on recommending strategies for improving the well beings of people and sustaining the ecosystem on which they depend. It is now generally recognized that ecologically sound environmental management and economic development, particularly in developing countries are closely linked. On this recognition, we must take into account the capabilities and limitations of the natural environment, as well as the needs of future generations to develop a sustainable ecosystem.

The knowledge of ecosystem can be approached by the study of Environmental science. It is a multi-disciplinary field and is the application of knowledge from many disciplines to the study and management of the environment. It is an examination of the conditions, circumstances, and influences that affect all life and how life in turn responds.

The field of environmental education emphasizes the role of environment concerns in all activities. a concern of the environment can be viewed as part of economic development. Great majority of people want to live in a clean, pleasing and productive environment. Development of such environment require the knowledge of Natural systems and Living Environment, Soil Environment, Diversity of Plants and its Conservation.
